We Wear Future

As part of the cultural program for VAMFF, Brunswick Street Gallery hosted We Wear Future. An exhibition showcasing over 20 emerging designers and artists who focus on locally made and sustainable fashion pieces with a futuristic edge.
Featuring many RMIT students and graduates, it's inspiring to see the this generation is passionate in local production and exploring sustainable textile innovations.

Jean Paul Gaultier

The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier made its ninth worldwide stop in Melbourne over the summer. After months of hearing nothing but amazing things, I finally managed to head to the exhibition for the final weekend... probably the one busiest yet!
Surprisingly the NGV encouraged visitors to share images on social media. So no need to take sneaky photographs.

Rocking The Runway - Behind The Scenes

As part of Breast cancer awareness month, Frankies organised a fundraising runway event with profits going towards the cause. Rocking the runway in hot pink bobs, the models wore the new basics collection available at Frankies boutique along with the launch of a new range designed by my friend Denver Styles. The samples for Denver's range are currently instore and other sizes are available for pre-order.

I worked behind the scenes for the night, helping with dressing the models. I'm wearing a perforated leatherette dress by Ladakh available on The Iconic.

Nixi Killick

Melbourne based designer Nixi Killick has come a long way since representing RMIT at last years National Graduate Showcase. With excitement built after Lady Gaga wore her designs for her new tour brochure, the turnout for this laneway event was extraordinary and possibly unexpected, with guests crowding in to get a glimpse of the vibrant and colourful designs. The collection featured bold digitally designed prints layered with sculptured art pieces, extravagant accessories and wearable harnesses.

Chadstone Trend Edit

As mentioned in my previous post, Chadstone held their Spring Summer '14 trend edit with special guests Olivia Palermo and her husband Johannes. Joined by designers Jacqui Demkiw from White Suede and Helen O'Connor from Thurley, the group took us through their key looks for the new season.

Olivia mentioned how much she loves Australian designers, including Sass and Bide, Willow, Manning Cartell and of course White Suede and Thurley. Here is Olivia's Australian designer edit. She also mentioned the dress she wore for the Icons Of Style photoshoot was by Thurley, which was incredibly special for her since she was photographed by her husband.

The above four looks are all from Thurley Spring/Summer '14.
Every season Thurley offer beautiful feminine pieces, with Helen stating she loves to incorporate lace and embellishment details. The most interesting point was the feature for this last dress, she chose to use the trim as the main fabrication, creating a unique summer look.

The above looks are from the White Suede Spring Summer collection, Architectural Wanderlust. Specialising in exclusive digital prints and structured pieces, White Suede always offer countless options for the party season. Jacqui explained her must have is stretch leather, with this being prominent throughout the range.
