Frock Lovin

I came across this delightful book 'A Life in Frocks' by Kelly Doust. The cover caught my eye while I was searching for another book in the bio section.
I enjoyed it a lot so I wanted to share it with you!

I know they say don't judge a book by its cover but I think most of us who live in a world where we care about aesthetics, would say that we do. Of course I have books I've bought because they're a classic or you've heard it was good but for books you have never heard of, it's fair to say we judge the covers.

I was drawn to the book by the cute illustrations by Zoe Sadokierski, on both covers and throughout the book.
I love how the dust cover is covered in items of clothing and then when you take it off, the hard cover has pieces of lingerie.

A Life in Frocks is about the 'divine obsession'- a woman's love for clothes. In particular, it is a personal, entertaining, joyous and seductive exploration of the significance of clothes, filtered through one woman's lifelong sartorial infatuation.

'There's more to fashion than pretty frocks. Kelly Doust flicks through a wardrobe of memories conjured up by her favourite and not so favourite outfits to discover what makes us fall in love with clothes. Delightful and charming, with a sprinkling of sound fashion advice.' - Kirstie Clements, Editor-in-Chief Vogue Australia

As soon as I read this on the back cover...I knew I had found a book I would love. If you love clothes, I suggest you read this book.

'A Life in Frocks' is a memoir which I think made me enjoy it even more because the stories are real experiences, rather than being a fiction novel. Kelly Doust goes through various items of clothing that have meant something to her and tells her stories of them. Along the way she also gives bits of great fashion and life advice.

I think the reason I enjoyed the book so much is because from page one, I could relate to Kelly and her obsession with clothing. Especially the way we change our clothing to be seen the way we want at that specific time.

Here's a few more illustrations by Zoe Sadokierski that appear throughout the book.

Coco Chanel and her iconic quote.

Kelly's description of the little black dresses from her wardrobe - the ex debutante, the flirt, the retro queen, the kook, subtle chic.

My Little Makeover

In the past month I've bought a few bits and pieces to help tidy my room. I'm really messy and if I don't have a proper space for things..I end up not putting anything away (resulting in my fantastic floordrobe).

Half of my clothes no longer fit inside my actual wardrobe..so I got my hands on this rail to hang my knits and skirts.

I was surprised to find this cute jewellery hanger at Target. It's great for my extra long necklaces and I loved the script font.

These wooden coat hangers are from The Reject Shop, which means they were pretty cheap! (of course I would much rather spend money on more clothes than on coat hangers)

Can you ever have too many bags and scarves? I don't think so...but I did need somewhere to put them all...apart from on my door handle which made it impossible to use.
I bought this bag tree at Big W (with a very old Coles Myer gift card I found when I was cleaning out my room...I love when that happens :P)

Once I'd sorted out my bedroom, I decided I needed to change something about myself too...so I impulsively cut my hair last month! I haven't ever had short hair so it's been a nice change.
