I enjoyed it a lot so I wanted to share it with you!
I know they say don't judge a book by its cover but I think most of us who live in a world where we care about aesthetics, would say that we do. Of course I have books I've bought because they're a classic or you've heard it was good but for books you have never heard of, it's fair to say we judge the covers.
I was drawn to the book by the cute illustrations by Zoe Sadokierski, on both covers and throughout the book.
I love how the dust cover is covered in items of clothing and then when you take it off, the hard cover has pieces of lingerie.
'There's more to fashion than pretty frocks. Kelly Doust flicks through a wardrobe of memories conjured up by her favourite and not so favourite outfits to discover what makes us fall in love with clothes. Delightful and charming, with a sprinkling of sound fashion advice.' - Kirstie Clements, Editor-in-Chief Vogue Australia
As soon as I read this on the back cover...I knew I had found a book I would love. If you love clothes, I suggest you read this book.
'A Life in Frocks' is a memoir which I think made me enjoy it even more because the stories are real experiences, rather than being a fiction novel. Kelly Doust goes through various items of clothing that have meant something to her and tells her stories of them. Along the way she also gives bits of great fashion and life advice.
I think the reason I enjoyed the book so much is because from page one, I could relate to Kelly and her obsession with clothing. Especially the way we change our clothing to be seen the way we want at that specific time.
Here's a few more illustrations by Zoe Sadokierski that appear throughout the book.
